“Artists don’t make money till they’re dead.”
When I was asked in third grade what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said I wanted to be an artist. My teacher replied with the comment above. I was dissuaded for a while, and had hopes of becoming an archaeologist, though I never stopped creating art. When I was 11 I made candle and jewellery holders out of driftwood and shells, and made my first abstract multimedia piece around then also. I moved to Tofino from Victoria in 2008 when I was 24, and it was there that I really started to paint. I displayed paintings at Tuff Beans Coffee Shop where I worked for 4 years, and eventually had my first and only Vernissage at Humanity (where I was working) a few years after that. I started working at Shambhala Music Festival in 2011, at the smoothie bar, was the Meal Manager for years after that, and I’ve been with the Village Stage since 2018 (though I attended my first Shambhala in 2004). I sell my jewellery, art and sage at the Village Stage Art Gallery, and will be posting more unpublished works as I can (I created a lot that never made it up in 2019). I often enjoy creating art to liquid drum and bass, and the sunrise set on Monday at the Village is one of my all-time favourites.
The Bass Crystals are some of my Village Stage creations, as they align with the myth and story of our stage and the healing bass crystals that crash landed in the forest, more to come soon.
