Wildharvested & uncut, freerange first-world beach gems (also known as plastic) gathered on the beautiful beaches of Tofino BC. These sandsmoothed beauties are wrapped with salvaged copper wire, on a soldered brass chain with handcrafted copper earwires.

First World Beach Gems as I call them, are one visible outcome of our obsession with and addiction to plastic in all its forms. With the lack of adequate recycling and the odd fact that it seems brightly coloured beach plastic is invisible to beachcombers searching the shore for treasures, there is a proliferation of it on beaches everywhere.  

Next time you are visiting a beach, be it by your home or on vacation, please bring a bag or even a fancy basket and gather some of these small bits of plastic so that they are not eaten by wildlife or added to one of the many gyres of plastic in our oceans.
